Description
The horse (Equus caballus) is a large herbivorous mammal domesticated for over 5,000 years. Average lifespan: 25 to 30 years.
Habitat
Horses need large spaces: pastures with shelter, spacious stalls and daily turnout. They live in herds and suffer from isolation.
Diet
Grass and hay ad libitum form the bulk of the diet. Cereal supplements according to workload, minerals, salt and constant clean water.
Behaviour
A flight animal, horses are sensitive to sudden movements and noise. They establish a clear herd hierarchy.
