Description
The domestic mouse is a small, very intelligent, sociable and nocturnal rodent. It lives 1.5 to 3 years and must always be kept in groups (females only or a neutered male).
Habitat
A tall cage with fine bars (minimum 40 × 60 cm for 3 mice), platforms, hides, a solid wheel, tunnels and deep substrate.
Diet
A mouse seed mix, small amounts of fresh vegetables, protein (cooked egg, dried insects) once or twice a week.
Behaviour
Very active, curious and playful, mice live in hierarchical groups. Daily enrichment is essential.
Essential tips
- Avoid chocolate, onion, citrus, fatty cheese.
- Never house males together — they will fight.
- Handle calmly, cupped in the hands.
- Partial weekly cleaning to limit scent stress.
