Description
The parrot covers many species (African grey, macaw, amazon, cockatoo...). Highly intelligent, sensitive and long-lived: 30 to 80 years depending on species.
Habitat
A very large aviary or species-appropriate cage, natural wooden perches, varied toys and several hours of out-of-cage time daily.
Diet
Parrot-specific pellets, daily fresh vegetables, moderate fruit, small amount of seeds and clean water.
Behaviour
Parrots are flock animals: vocal, playful and emotional. They need constant mental stimulation to avoid boredom and feather plucking.
Essential tips
- Avoid avocado, chocolate, caffeine, alcohol, onion, salt.
- Never use Teflon cookware nearby — fumes are lethal.
- Weekly bath or misting.
- Daily cognitive stimulation (foraging, puzzles).
