Can my ferret eat sausage?

Sausage is generally well tolerated by a ferret. Serve it fresh, clean, at room temperature, and unseasoned (no salt, sugar, butter, onion, or garlic). Cut into bite-sized pieces appropriate for your pet to avoid choking. Introduce gradually the first time to confirm there is no digestive upset.

Offer as a complement, not a replacement for the main diet. A small portion once or twice a week is enough.

Very limited risk: excess may cause loose stools or a dietary imbalance if given too often.

In case of excess: mild diarrhea, gas, reduced appetite. Reduce the amount and consult a vet if symptoms persist.

Rotate with other suitable foods to keep your pet's diet balanced.
